ACMENET Windows NT 4.0 Setup
To begin, go to 'Start', 'Settings', 'Control Panel'. Once In the Control
Panel, double click on the 'Network' icon.
In the Network settings, click on 'Remote Access Server (RAS for short)
and click on 'Properties'.
*If RAS is not installed, they will need to click on the 'Add' button
and install it manually
Then, they will be prompted for their Windows NT CD. Insert the CD
and click 'Continue'.
If it is already installed, you can proceed as normal.
RAS will then ask you what device you want to use. If the modem is already
installed, it should show up in this window. If not, the modem setup wizard
will appear and install the modem automatically (you are familiar with
this process from Windows 95). Click 'OK'
This RAS screen will show up confirming your choice. Click on 'Configure'.
For the 'Port Usage', make sure that 'Dial Out Only' is bulleted. Click
'OK'.
That will bring you back to the RAS device screen. From there, click
on 'Network'. From Network, make sure that TCP/IP is the only protocol
that is checked. Click on 'OK'.
That will finish setting up RAS. Keep clicking 'OK' until you get
back to the main desktop screen. After NT is finished updating it's bindings,
you will be prompted to reboot. Click 'No'.
Now, go to 'Start', 'Programs', 'Accessories', 'Dial Up Networking'. This
will bring up the Phone book Entry Wizard. For the phone book entry, enter
'ACMENET'. Then click 'Next'.
In the next screen, check the 'I am calling the Internet' box only and
click 'Next'.
In the next screen, enter the phone number that the user will be dialing.
Click 'Next'.
That's it. Click on 'Finish'.
Well...that's almost it. Go back to Dial Up Networking (Start/Programs/Accessories/Dial
Up Networking). That will bring up the ACMENET phone book entry. The
first tab is the 'Basic' tab. These settings should already be all set.
On the 'Server' tab, make sure that 'TCP/IP' is the only protocol checked
and that 'Enable Software Compression' is checked and 'Enable PPP LCP
Extensions' is not. If all is well here, click on the 'TCP/IP Settings'
button.
On the 'PPP TCP/IP Settings' tab, make sure that 'Server assigned IP address'
is checked and that 'Server assigned name server addresses' is checked. Click 'OK'.
On the 'Script' tab, 'None' should be bulleted. NOTE: If the user is calling
any of the non-8000 numbers, they will have to have 'Pop up a terminal
window' checked instead or else they will not be able to log on.
Click 'OK'. At this point, they are ready to connect. Have the user reboot
their system and they are ready to go.
