Netscape 4.5 Preference Settings Page 2
Continuing with the Mail & Newsgroups Settings, we find the Copies
and Folders Sections. It's recommended that you have a check in "Place
a copy in folder.." so when you send mail, Netscape will retain a copy
for you. It's good to do this because, the mail server you are sending
to might not get the message, or the recipient might delete the message
and want another copy sent back.
In Formatting, you can set whether
Netscape will send mail in plain text
or HTML. We recommend that you send your mail as plain text, because
some of the recipients of your mail will not be able to read HTML as email.
Such as, users who check their mail on the server, and users with older
operating systems like Windows3.1. In those cases the users would
have to open the mail you sent them with their web browsers.
This is the Return Receipts area, if
you are interested in receiving receipts when your email is received by the recipients
you send to. You can
configure this area as you see fit.
In Disk Space, you can change the amount
of space your mail account takes
on your machine. You can also change Newsgroup settings here.
Here you can find the default settings
for Offline. You can change
what Netscape does when working off-line in this area.
This is the Advanced area. You can enable or disable Java here, and
deal with how Netscape will handle Cookies. Cookies are packets of
information sent between your machine and the server of the web page you
are viewing that keep track of where you are, and where you've been. You
should have Cookies active, because there are many sites that will
not let you in unless Netscape is accepting Cookies.
This is the Cache area for Netscape. Here you can raise or lower Netscape's
cache storage. Cache is information about the web pages
that you download. When you return to a previous visited page, Netscape
will draw the page from Cache instead of downloading the entire web page
again. This speeds up the viewing process when you are online. You
can clear your Memory and Disk Cache here as well.
The Remaining settings that we have not covered are all specific to the
individual user. You may configure them as you see fit.
