Netscape 4.0x Installation





When you begin to download Netscape Communicator, your machine will first ask you what to do with the file you are downloading.  Always select "Save."  Then your machine will ask where to put the file in the "Save As..." window.  You should make sure your are downloading the application to your "Desktop"  This way, you can easily see it without opening any windows.  (If you want to see the icon on the Desktop, scroll to the bottom of this page.)  Then click on "Save"



This is the display window you will see when the application is in the process of downloading.  Netscape Communicator 4.0x is a very large file, and it will take a while to download. This version (4.07) you see here is 15 megs.  While the machine is taking in the download, leave it alone until it is finish downloading.



After you have successfully retrieved the executable, double click on the icon to begin the installation.  For this version, the executable was called "cc23e407.exe"



This is the welcome screen for Netscape installation.  Click "Next"



After reading the License Agreement, click "Yes"



In most cases, a "Typical" install will suit your needs.  (For the more advanced users, select "Custom" to pick and choose the applications attached to Communicator).  Leave the "Destination Directory" set to the path shown below, then click "Next"


Agree to this question by clicking on "Yes"


Allow Netscape to place the application in this folder shown below, then click "Next"


Now, to complete the setup, click on the "Install" button.


 



Here is the window you should see as the program is installed on your machine.  The bar will move to the right showing the progress of the install.



If you wish to read the release notes and other information, click on "Yes"  This is not necessary to read, but it gives you a little more information on the program you just installed.



Click on "OK"



And finally, make sure "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is bulleted, and then click on "OK."  This will restart your machine, after it has rebooted, you will need to set up an account in Netscape Communicator.  Click on the arrow below to see the next set of instructions.
