ACMENET Macintosh System 8 Setup (Internet Setup Assistant)![]() The fastest way to connect to ACMENET using your Macintosh with system 8 or greater is the Internet Setup Assistant. To start the Internet Setup Assistant, double click on your hard drive icon from the desktop. Then, you should see a folder that says 'Internet'. Double click this folder. You should have a screen that looks like the one below. ![]() Double click on the 'Internet Setup Assistant' icon to start the configuration process. ![]() The first screen that you come to will ask you if you want to register with a new ISP online, or to Update your current settings. Choose 'Update' by clicking on the 'Update' button once. ![]() This will start the Internet Configuration process. ![]() This will bring you to the introduction screen. From this screen, just click on the right arrow on the bottom right hand of the window as shown below ![]() ![]() This screen will ask you what you want to name the connection that you are about to create. In the space provided, type 'ACMENET' (case and form do not matter in this screen). Make sure that 'modem' is selected as the answer to the question, "How will you be connecting to the Internet?" ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() This screen will ask you what you want to name the connection that you are about to create. If your modem is listed in the choices provided, please select it by clicking on it once with your mouse. If your modem is not specifically listed, check with the documentation that came with your modem to see if an alternate choice can be made that will be compatible. If your modem is not listed and your modem manual does not have an alternate listing you can use, please contact us so that we may walk you through setting up a null modem script for your existing modem.* Once your modem, or a compatible alternate are selected form the choices provided, please select the port that your modem is connected to (if you are not sure, select 'modem port'). Once this information is entered, click on the right arrow at the bottom of the screen. ![]() * - If you need to contact us to set up a null modem script for you because your modem or a compatible alternate are not an option here, please have the following information available for the representative that you speak with:
![]() Here, you will be asked to enter the phone number you wish to use to connect to the Internet. If you are unsure of what phone number to use, click here for a list of our current dial up phone numbers. Then, enter the username that you chose when you signed up the account (for example, if your email address on ACMENET is mark@acmenet.net, then your username would be mark). Make sure that for this screen and all screens after this that you enter all information in all lowercase letters with no spaces. This is very important. Then, enter your password that you were assigned when you setup the account. ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() This screen will ask you if you have been assigned an IP address with your connection. Since your IP address is dynamic (it changes each time you connect), select 'No' for this screen. ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() Here, you will be prompted to enter the Domain Name Service (DNS) information for ACMENET. Enter the information exactly as it's shown below. For the DNS numbers, enter the following: 204.97.128.2 208.20.65.97 For the domain name, enter 'acmenet.net' (without the quotes) as shown below. ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() This screen will ask you for your email address as well as your email password. Your email address is your username@acmenet.net. So, if you chose the username 'mark' when you signed up your account, your email address will be mark@acmenet.net. The password for your email is the same password that you were given when you setup the account with us. All this information should be entered in lowercase letters with no spaces like shown below (substitute your information for the 'username' and 'password' entries shown with your information). ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() This screen will ask you about mail configuration. The first box will ask you what your POP account is on ACMENET. For this field, enter your email address again (username@acmenet.net) just as you did in the last screen. For the second option, you will need to enter the SMTP address of the ACMENET mail server. This is 'mail.acmenet.net' (again, without the quotes). Your screen should look like the one below. ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() You will now be prompted to enter newsgroup server information. This is the NNTP server for ACMENET. For this field, you should enter 'news.acmenet.net' as shown below. ![]() Click on the right arrow as shown to proceed to the next screen. ![]() This will complete the configuration for ACMENET. From this screen, you can finalize the setup and connect to the Internet, or just finish the setup and save the settings by unchecking the 'Connect when finished' box. Either way, click on the 'Go Ahead' button to finish the setup wizard. ![]() After clicking on the 'Go Ahead' button, you will see the following screen telling you that your Macintosh is saving the configuration settings that you specified. ![]() If you chose to connect to the Internet after finishing the setup, you will then see the final screen that tells you that you are now connecting to the Internet. If all goes well, all you have to do is open up your Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer browser and you will be able to navigate around the world wide web, or you can click on the mail icon on your desktop to send and receive email. ![]() |
